Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: Repairs fail to start

Just to ensure your machine isn't infected, run a scan with the Free ESET Online Scanner -

Probably best to download and run the scan in Safe Mode with Networking

https://www.eset.com/uk/home/online-scanner/

This article has some tips for getting Windows Defender to turn on -

https://www.minitool.com/backup-tips/windows-defender-not-turning-on.html

Where Win 10 updates are concerned, this cmd can sometimes help -

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

Follow that with the dism /restorehealth and sfc /scannow cmds and try your updates again.

I think the problem is related to Windows Defender not being able to start.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: V4.12.4 won't run in XP
« on: April 20, 2022, 01:08:42 am »
I'm surprised anyone is still using XP but I've emailed Shane about this and have included a link to your thread.

79
I don't recognise the pics in relation to the forum.

You were obviously able to save those to upload.

80
When you get a problem with a particular program, the best course is to uninstall/reinstall then see if that resolves the problem.

81
I don't know what more I can add to this thread and don't know why you were unable to save a modified post.

I have posted and then modified this reply without any problems.

82
Reinstalling Windows Repair should resolve that error message.

You can download a Win 10 ISO from - https://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/software-download/windows10

If you save the download you can use Imgburn to create a bootable disk - https://www.techspot.com/downloads/3285-imgburn.html

Hope this helps.

83
I use Edge in Win 11.

I think you are probably right that the spam catcher alert is incorrect and would seem to be browser specific.

85
If you do a manual check for updates, MS will give what you need.

86
Try it again but without catalog.

netsh winsock reset

« on: April 05, 2022, 12:58:00 am »
I don't know why it did that but glad you were able to fix it.

88
The full cmd is netsh int ip winsock reset catalog

From what you posted, you had left out netsh

89
If you've done a clean install then do a check for updates and Windows Update will automatically give you them and then you can select what you want to download and install.

90
The Search works fine on my WR so I'm unable to replicate your problem.

I suggest you run a Command Prompt as an admin and enter these cmds -

netsh int ip winsock reset catalog

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

shutdown /r /t 00

Then see if you get the same error after ther reboot.

91
This is the MS Update Catalog where you can manually download each update -

https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=security%20monthly%20rollup%20for%20Windows%207

Is this what you are referring to ?

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: Lost Key?
« on: April 01, 2022, 02:42:01 am »
Love the product. My issue is that I get the email and the key, but when I enter it into the program...it says restart to active. I restart the program and it is still free. Any ideas?

I've passed this onto one of the admins for his attention.

94
Sorry about that - try this one -

https://sites.google.com/view/windows7homepremiumisodownload/home

This is the full Win 7 ISO with SP1.

See if these steps to suspend Bitlocker will help -

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/38508-suspend-resume-bitlocker-protection-drive-windows-10-a.html

You could also try a cold boot by pressing and holding down the power key to see if it has cleared when you reboot.

Wait a few seconds before you reboot.

96
I forgot to add  that you can use Imgburn to create a bootable disk from the ISO -

https://www.techspot.com/downloads/3285-imgburn.html?msclkid=de635616ac2b11ec8d80fa9d61c2d9d0

The sfc offboot cmd is when you are repairing the volume using the install media.

99
If you are going to come onto the forum then there's no need to check your emails.

You would need to boot up with install media to run a Startup Repair as it can only be accessed from Repair your computer.

The bootrec and fix mbr cmds would automatically execute on where the volume is installed.

Can you post a link to a website where it advises to change from x:sources to c:

Even when I run a sfc /scannow after booting up with install media, I enter the cmd from the default prompt but first run the cmd bcdedit |find "osdevice" and then I would use that partition letter instead of the X I have exampled in the following cmd -

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=X:\ /offwindir=X:\

For clarity that is a Pipe symbol before find and is the upper case of \

It's the way MS has designed Windows and how it can be repaired.

My forum notifications are also going into my Spam folder but as I check the forum for replies, I don't rely on my emails for those.
